Middletown – Head Start students crafted dozens of Valentine’s Day cards this week to honor veterans in time for the holiday. RECAP partnered with Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney’s office to send messages of appreciation to Hudson Valley heroes. The kids used paint, doilies, and glitter to decorate cards with hearts, handprints, and messages of thanks. Artful cards also came from clients in the TRUST Center’s outpatient addiction treatment program.
Maria Ingrassia, a representative from Maloney’s office, stopped by to meet with RECAP’s CEO Charles Quinn and pick up the cards. Congressman Maloney is an advocate for Hudson Valley veterans and serves as a representative for the United States Military Academy at West Point.
“We are excited to partner with Congressman Maloney’s team to honor the sacrifices of our veterans not just on Veterans Day, but every day,” said Quinn. “Valentines for Vets is a fun, hands-on way to introduce military appreciation to preschool kids. Valentine’s Day isn’t just for our friends and families, but is a great teaching tool to promote community service.”
