“Helping People. Changing Lives”

SNUG

It’s time to disrupt the mind-set of gun violence in our inner cities. Our Program SNUG, "guns" spelled backwards, is the 12th and newest site of the evidence-based violence reduction initiative, yelling “SNUGLOVE”

Recap’s commitment to uplifting residents from poverty and increasing their public safety, implemented the SNUG program supported by Orange County and City of Newburgh’s officials, community residents, businesses and community-based organizations, collaborates to reduce and prevent gun related shootings and killings.

SNUG returned to Newburgh in September, of 2020. The S.E.T training held in the Newburgh’s Recreation center, was the re-emergence of the Newburgh’s public health service worker, called credible messengers or outreach workers.

As credible messengers/outreach workers, we work to reduce gun violence by mediating conflicts with alternatives to violence.

“Mediations help drive down violence by stopping shootings before they happen or by stopping a retaliation after a shooting has happened”.

SNUG utilizes credible messengers to work side by side with those community members who are now seeking a change in lifestyle. The SNUG’s presence is through canvassing and hosting or co-hosting community events, to build community ties, educate, and inspire community enrichment and shifting the mindset of gun violence being a community norm.
